(SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Educational & Career Planner- International and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Programs.
The Educational and Career Planner has an official reporting line to the Director of Advising Career and Transfer Services, and will work in coordination with the Associate Dean of International Student Services and the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The position is responsible for assisting enrolled and prospective students in developing meaningful educational goals and providing educational planning, career and transfer assistance. This position will specifically advise prospective and enrolled international students as well as students in SPSCC's Diversity Equity and Inclusion Center programs.

What You'll Do Manage a caseload of students in assisting them with specific tasks described below:
- Working with diverse student populations, assist with clarifying educational, career, and life goals through career exploration, identifying programs of study and recommending academic and personal support services.
- Advise students of requirements for transfer and professional/technical programs, certificates, special programs and other degrees.
- Assist students with the development of individualized degree plans and appropriate course and resources needed to achieve these goals after evaluating a student's academic history and placement.
- Provide supportive and customized intervention services and outreach to students and appropriate referrals to college resources or community agencies for personal counseling or related issues.
- Monitor individual student academic performance and consult with faculty and other administrative departments to ensure student success.
- Works with students on academic probation and suspension to develop an improvement plan; monitors progress and identify specific areas for tutoring assistance.
- Develop and deliver workshops and seminars on student success strategies in collaboration with other departments.
- Interpret placement test scores and review college/high school transcripts to determine English and math course placements when appropriate.
- Maintain transfer information and advising resources.
- Articulate college policies and procedures.
- Conduct student orientation and advising sessions.
- Functions as liaison with transfer institution's international admissions and multicultural outreach and recruitment offices; refers students to appropriate college, and university contacts to assist with the transfer process.
- Assist in the development of advising, career and transfer materials, including online services and processes that facilitate an efficient and effective advising system.
- Assist with planning and participate in advising, career and transfer events, such as; Pathways Day, Campus Career fairs, Annual Career Day, Job Fairs, Veterans Career Day, Health-Care Career Day, Transfer fairs, etc.
- Work with various college departments and other institutions to maintain accurate and current curriculum information and interpret their policies as well as degree and transfer requirements.
- Assist in maintaining educational planning materials for college degrees and programs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training materials, presentations and workshops.
- Identify trends and best practices in advising through literature review and research.
- Serve on college committees as assigned.
International Student Services (ISS):
- In collaboration with ISS staff advise students with immigration petitions and applications to include processing for new F-1 visas, work permission, reinstatement, and reduced course load authorizations, change of status, medical leave and economic hardship employment authorization.
- In collaboration with ISS coordinate the International Peer Mentor program by providing training, and support to peer mentors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of International Student Services.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEIC):
- Attend IGNITE staff meetings and assist the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as needed with related program planning and development.

Qualifications You Possess Minimum Qualifications- Master's degree (completed or in progress) in Advising, Counseling, Education or related area from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working with individuals in a one-on-one setting.
- Ability to provide comprehensive and creative educational planning, degree/career exploration and advising services.
- Experience developing and/or conducting presentations and group advising sessions.
- Experience working with and supporting the needs of diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to, understanding of, and competency working with the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, ethnic and disability backgrounds of community college students.
- Extensive application using the Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and using database technology to track student interaction and services.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle a large caseload of students.
- Ability to maintain policy and programmatic integrity while communicating in a manner respectful of cultural and college realities.
Preferred Qualifications- Knowledge of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
- Experience interpreting placement test scores and articulating college policies and procedures.
